If you’re stopping by Jackson, California, this spring, be sure to join the American Association of University Women (AAUW) in celebrating the 40th Annual Home Tour: “A View from the Castle.” For this celebration, five families have generously opened their homes on Saturday, April 21 for the public’s viewing pleasure.
Three of the homes are masterpieces made at the turn of the century while the other two are modern golf courses. Each house has its own unique story, and an AAUW hostess will be available to answer your questions during your self-guided tour. The tour will also run through the Preston Castle and one of Ione’s historic churches. There will also be an art show, wine tasting, tea, cookies, and live music in the garden.
In addition, the AAUW will raffle off an opportunity quilt, which was hand-stitched to raise money for educated women in the community. The quilt’s design is “Tree of Life.” Tickets for the drawing are now on sale for $1 each or six for $5 from AAUW members. All proceeds go to the AAUW Scholarship fund and are fully tax deductable.
The Home Tour is celebrated every year to support the Amador County branch’s efforts to give academic scholarships to the girls and women of Amador County. AAUW sends several 7th grade girls to “Tech Trek,” an educational summer program that inspires young girls in math and science. A new contest was added this year to support young writers, called the “Women’s History Month Essay Contest.”
Tickets for the tour are $22 in advance and $25 the day of the tour. You can buy your tickets from Bubble Gum Books in Sutter Creek, Pine Cone Drug in Pine Grove, Amador Wine Shipping in Plymouth, Main Street Designs in Jackson and Clark’s Corner in Ione. Come out and support the young girls of Amador County!
